Floria

700

Floria is our final round BVW work that enjoyed wide positive feedback. It is a highly interactive world, showing the journey of a Fairy, with the help of the Elves, to defeat Knorx the Darklord and retrieve light and color to Floria the wonderland. The player needs to interact with the environment to pass the levels. At some points the player will find it hard to pass, where the audience will be able to help out. This mechanism perfectly suits the show circumstance.

I’m the only programmer on this project. I did all the game logic, input-output and mechanism, and implemented the audience interaction. I contributed to the design process. Also I helped sound designing.

Floria is widely considered the best BVW word of our year and was chosen as the finale in the BVW Show 2012. The music visualization work, Flower Dance, was on display on the ETC Bridge at the night of the Show.

Story: When Knorx the Darklord invaded Floria, he stole all the color and light and rendered the world dark and dangerous. An unnamed fairy raised her wand and started the journey to defeat Knorx. During this gloomy quest, she was helped by the elves from the forest.

Mechanism: This is a side-scrolling game and the player generally move from left to right. The player need to interact with the environment to pass the levels. At some points the player will find it hard to pass,?where?the audience will be able to help out. This mechanism perfectly suits the show circumstance.

Technology: The player uses PS Move controller to navigate and interact in the world, which also gives vibration feedback to the player. The audience use cellphone light, which is recognized by the camera and influences the world. At certain point the audience also give vocal help to the player.

Aesthetic: This game is 3D from a side-scrolling view. The art style is a combination of cartoon and fantasy.
